Upgrading MikroTik RouterOS Firmware using Winbox

Mikrotik RouterOS and RouterBoard are widely used routers by ISP Providers and Hotspot providers around the globe due to varitie of Features for IP and Wireless Network, There are mainly 2 different way we can upgrade MikroTik RouterOS Firmware using Automatically and Manually option.

Automatically Upgrading Mikrotik RouterOS Using Winbox.

This is the easiest way we can upgrade the firmware with bear minimum steps
✦ Login to Mikrotik RouterOS using Winbox. Follow my previous Blog “How to Login to MikroTik RouterOS from LAN Side” to login to MikroTik RouterOS using Winbox.
✦ Click on System -> Packages -> Click on “Check for Updates” Button
✦ Select Channel from the list:- Long Term, Stable, Testing and Development it is adviced to go for Long Term Version
✦ Click on “Download and Install” button
Once downloading is completed Mikroitk will reboot automatically and boot with latest firmare.
✦ To check the Firmware Click on System -> Resources and check the Version No.

Manually Upgrading Mikrotik RouterOS Using Winbox.

Step 1:- Login to mikrotik RouterOS.

✦ Login to Mikrotik RouterOS using Winbox. Follow my previous Blog “How to Login to MikroTik RouterOS from LAN Side” to login to MikroTik RouterOS using Winbox.

Step 2:- Verify Mikrotik RouterOS Architecture.

✦ To check the Mikrotik RouterOS Architecture Click on System -> Resources and check the Architecture Name.

Note:- Firmware with same Architecture we need to download from Mikrotik Website.

Step 3:- Download Mikrotik RouterOS Firmware.

✦ To download Mikrotik RouterOS Firmware Visit “Mikrotik Website”, and based on Mikrotik RouterOS Architecure download the Main Package.

Step 4:- Upload Firmware in Mikrotik RouterOS.

✦ Once download is completed we need to upload the same in Mikrotik RouterOS. So login to mikrotik RouterOS -> Click on Files -> Click on Upload -> Select the Firmware File & Click Open (Now the Firmware will be uploaded in Mikrotik RouterOS).

Step 5:- Reboot the Mikrotik RouterOS.

✦ Once the Firmware is oplodeded we need to reboot the RouterOS so Click on Systems -> Click on Reboot -> Click on Yes.

Step 6:- Verify the Firmware.

✦ To check the Firmware Click on System -> Resources and check the Version No.
